It is a common misconception that the jumper is just an item of clothing you put on in the winter to keep warm, with little regard for style. Over the past couple of years however the jumper has been seen in high fashion catwalk shows and in numerous designer stores as a key fashionable item for the winter. So now autumn/winter 2010 is well and truly here, it’s time to look at how the designer jumper can be worn for a smart occasion – anything from a night in the pub through to a wedding. The Occasion – A Wedding The trousers should be smart and tailored to follow the contours of the body. If they are too baggy they start to look too casual whilst tight fitting trousers will inhibit you when comfort is required. Your trousers should be in a medium-weight fabric so suitable for the cool outside air as well as the warmer party environment. Your trousers should be in a classic dark colour such as black, charcoal or navy to create the ideal base for your designer jumper. The jumper should be fitted to the shape of the body. As with the trousers, you don’t want your jumper to be too baggy or too tight. Ideally, your designer jumper should end on your hips and not the waist to ensure a clean transitional into the trousers. Colour-wise, a wedding is a joyous event so colour should be used to convey this. However for a winter wedding you should avoid pale colours such as yellow or baby blue. Instead opt for warmer tones such as burgundy, emerald green or deep purple. The footwear should be smart and in a dark neutral colour that matches your trousers such as black. You need comfortable shoes as you are likely to be spending a lot of time on your feet, waiting for photos to be taken or on the dance floor having a boogie. Leather shoes are ideal as they keep your feet at an optimum temperature, as well as protecting them against the outside elements. The Occasion – A Night In The Pub Trousers are a little too smart for a night in the pub and can give you a ‘came straight for the office’ look. It’s therefore a better option to wear jeans. However as some jeans can look too casual, it’s best to opt for a pair of tailored designer jeans. The key colour for this autumn is dark indigo and you won’t go wrong if you wear this colour denim to the pub. The jumper should be bold in it’s styling, creating the focal point of the outfit. The Police 883 jumpers collection contains a wide range of styles that are ideal for the pub. Take the Yuri Police jumper for example. This jumper is available in coral red which is a very in-trend colour for this autumn and makes a bold style statement. The cut is classic yet smart and a subtle logo to the chest conveys the designer element of this jumper. The footwear for the pub doesn’t have to be as smart as for a wedding but with dubious weather to contend with, it’s often best to wear a pair of leather boots or shoes as oppose to trainers or pumps. |
