Isn’t it amazing at how realistic some baby dolls are these days? Recently, there was even a story on a TV news program about how police busted the window out of a car to save a baby that was trapped inside during a very hot day. However, as it turned out, the baby was actually just a very realistic looking doll! There is a trend in the doll-collecting world that centers around baby dolls that look real. These dolls are usually referred to as “reborn” baby dolls. Most of them look incredibly real, and have the features and the weight of a real baby.

The idea of reborn baby dolls has been a bit controversial as there are many women who treat them like actual newborn babies. They dress them, rock them, stroll them around town and present the dolls as their children. Many of these same women have a large collection of babies that they have named and have nurseries decorated for them. Often, these are ladies who either never had kids of their own or their children are grown.

The doll artist will take the eyes, hair, and other physical features and put them together to create a very realistic looking doll. The skin is painted (and sometimes they use a process called mottling) and each tiny hair is rooted onto the head using a process called micro rooting. It takes several hours just to make one doll. The dolls can also be made to look like any ethnic group such as Caucasian, Asian, African American and Hispanic. The craftsmanship needed to make the babies look real is really unbelievable.

The bodies of these little newborns are stuffed like a regular doll, however they are also weighted to make them feel as authentic as possible. When you are holding one of these sweet dolls, you will really believe you are holding an actual baby. In fact, there are accessories you can buy which create a simulated heart beat and breathing too! This gives the babies a truly real effect.

There are many price ranges involved when you are talking about bay dolls that look real. A lot of the cost depends on whether an artist crafted the doll especially for your needs, or whether you bought a retail version. For instance, you can purchase a realistic looking newborn baby doll online for $30-100, but it would not necessarily be considered a “reborn” as they can be priced upwards of $500!

If you are looking for baby dolls that look real just for a little girl to play with, you definitely do not want to invest large amounts of money. Instead, you can find some amazingly real looking dolls for under $50 online. Little girls love baby dolls, and they are not going to be at all concerned with how real they appear. You can find clothing, pacifiers, baby bottles, cribs, strollers and other accessories that will make your little girl believe she has a real little baby.

1A Disappointment
By A. Pearson
I bought this book sight unseen off Amazon and was immediately disappointed as soon as I opened the cover. I was hoping for a collection of cool designs that would inspire me for my graphic design work. Maybe one third of the designs are quality (at best) the rest are very mediocre. One page has six variations of the same Mickey Mouse T-shirt with different text. WTF! There is a T-shirt with the original M TV logo, one with a Pepsi logo, you get the idea. The book is more of a historical catalog than anything else.

The book also has several interviews with losers who collect T’s and have hundreds of them and who provided the shirts featured in the book. Who cares, not me!

1Totally PO’d
By Kelly C. Smith
Some of my vintage Madonna tee shirts are featured in this book. The author Lisa said she’d send me a free book and even a nice picture disc or some other Madonna item to give to me in return for my time and trouble in taking all the pictures I did for this publication. I tried emailing her again, and now the email address is no longer valid. In addition, she lied to me and said the publication was “put on hold”…now I find the book has been published and I have received nothing promised for my time and trouble. If this is the way she and her co-author does business, then I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Totally dishonest in the way she and her co-author created this book. I wonder how many other pictures from other fans of other artists were treated?

TWO WORDS: RIP OFF!!!

Sincerely,

Kelly

5Vintage T shirts are the best kind of T shirts
By Devin Gustafson
I bought this book as a form of research since I currently work at a screen printing shop in town and it did not disappoint. Getting to see these old shirts separated by genre was a great way to get some new ideas for designs.
